The bid for a second state championship came up short on Tuesday for the Ottumwa High girls’ bowling team. The Bulldogs finished 5h in the team standings at the Class 2A state bowling meet in Des Moines.
For the second straight year, Warerloo West won the team championship. Bettendorf finished second, followed by Muscatine, Cedar Rapids Prairie and then Ottumwa. Johnston, Waterloo East and Cedar Rapids Jefferson rounded out the field.
In the individual race, Ottumwa sophomore Bailey Palmer finished second, just four pins shy of the top spot. Palmer was in second place after the first game, and improved her score by 12 pins in the second game. Unfortunately, Bettendorf’s Michaela Kelly, who was in third place after one game, improved her score by 34 pins in the second game to claim the championship.
