OHS Cultural Fair Set For Monday

By Jason Van Arkel, February 07, 2019

Ottumwa High School will host a cultural fair on Monday, February 11th in the school cafeteria from five until seven in the evening. The event, hosted by the OHS Human Rights Youth Chapter, is designed to bring families into the school from many different backgrounds, and to let immigrant students and their families know they are both welcomed and celebrated by the school.

Ottumwa High staff and administrators will be present to connect with students and their families, and several local resources will also be in attendance, including Iowa Works and Disability Services. Information from these services will be translated into the students’ native languages.

Information about the many countries of origin that make up the OHS student body will be available, including students and their families sharing traditional song and dances from Bulgaria, India, the Marshall Islands, Mexico, Paraguay and more. Local students and their families are invited to attend the fair and learn more about the diverse cultures that help populate the high school.
