The Ottumwa High baseball team opens substate play on Friday, when the Bulldogs play host to Indianola at 7pm. The full substate bracket for OHS, with seeds, is as follows:
#6 Des Moines Hoover @ #1 Des Moines East
#5 Indianola @ #2 Ottumwa
#4 Wes Des Moines Valley @ #3 Des Moines Lincoln
All three games will be played Friday evening. Once the opening round is completed, the highest-seeded team remaining will receive a bye in the semifinals and a berth in the substate championship game. The other two teams will play each other in the semifinals.
If East defeats Hoover, the top-seeded Scarlets will receive the bye into Wednesday’s finals, which means an Ottumwa win over Indianola will give the Bulldogs a home semifinal game against either Lincoln or Valley on Monday. If Hoover were to upset East, however, OHS would secure the semifinal by with a win over Indianola.
Ottumwa’s game on Friday and all subsequent Bulldog playoff games will be broadcast on 1240 KBIZ.
