Nobody Injured in Southside House Fire

By Ellis Codjoe, November 12, 2017

Ottumwa firefighters say nobody was injured while battling a fire at a home under renovation in Ottumwa.

First Responders were called to the home in the 1100 block of South Street at approximately 3:10 P.M. Sunday.

A neighbor reported to 911 that the home was filled with smoke and flames in the attic.

Crews arrived quickly and had the fire knocked down within about 15 minutes. Ottumwa Fire Captain Dave Yeager told Ottumwa Radio News that nobody was inside the home when the fire started.

“Dispatch said that it was abandoned, but it looks like the house has been under renovation,” Yeager said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
