In a game that took over three hours to complete, Davis County (6-1) weathered steady rain and a Cardinal (2-3) squad that refused to go away in a 10-8 win Wednesday night in Eldon.

Davis County senior Dalton Reeves drove in five runs, including a two-run single in the 7th inning to give the Mustangs a 10-5 lead.

But as they did all night, Cardinal rallied. The Comets scored three times in their half of the 7th inning and loaded the bases with two outs before Mustang hurler Presley Cantrell got Josh Courtney to fly out and end the game. Four days after earning his first career win as a Mustang, Cantrell was credited with his first career save.

The game was halted for 30 minutes in the 4th inning when heavy rain began to fall.

The Mustangs enjoyed leads of 2-0, 3-1, 7-2, and 10-5 but Cardinal had an answer every time Davis County threatened to pull away.

Dawson Townsend notched his second win of the season. The senior right-hander pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowing five runs on seven hits. He walked three and struck out seven.

Cardinal senior Kaleb Figueroa was 2-3 at the plate with a team-high three RBI.

Davis County will take on South Central Conference foe Albia at the Mustang Sports Complex on Thursday.
