Motorcyclist Leads Authorities on High Speed Chase

An attempt to pull over a motorcyclist Wednesday morning turned into a pursuit that exceeded 100 miles an hour in Fairfield.

Officers from the Fairfield Police Department attempted to stop a man riding a black Harley Davidson motorcycle for a minor traffic offense. The motorcyclist refused to stop and a high speed chase ensued.

55 year old William Lee Brown of Ottumwa had authorities following him from Highway 1, south Fairfield to the westbound portion of Highway 16. The chase ended at the Old Highway 98 in Eldon when Brown ran out of gas.

Brown was taken into custody and charged with eluding, an aggravated misdemeanor that is punishable for up to two years in prison and a fine of $6,250. Other traffic charges are pending.
