WATCH: Minor Injuries Reported in Crash on Highway 34

By Ellis Codjoe, December 28, 2017

Two people received minor injuries after an accident Thursday morning in Ottumwa.

Authorities were called to Highway 34 between the Vine and Church Street exits at approximately 8:00 o’clock on reports of a two vehicle accident.

Ottumwa Police Sergeant Steve Kovacs told Ottumwa Radio News that a black Dodge Ram pickup and a while Ford Edge were both traveling westbound on Highway 34.

The pickup lost control, entering the median. It then continued out of control, re-entering the westbound lanes before striking the Ford Edge.

Both drivers reported minor injuries but declined to be transported to the hospital.

The driver of the pickup has been cited for failure to maintain control.

Kovacs says the light snow that fell overnight led to several accidents Thursday morning. “We had a car bounce off a guardrail, in the county there were two vehicles that went into the ditch north of Ottumwa,” Kovacs said.

Additional snow is forecast for the Ottumwa area through Thursday afternoon, on Friday and again on Saturday night into Sunday morning.
