Merlin Scritchfield

Merlin Melvin Scritchfield, born December 4, 1942 in Centerville, Iowa, died September 26, 2019 at the Monroe Care Center in Albia.

Merlin attended school in Centerville and married his high school sweetheart, Patricia Simmons in 1960.  Together they had 4 children.

Merlin was a member of the Centerville Boys Youth Choir and maintained a love of music and movies throughout this life.  He co-owned and operated the Horse Traders restaurant and antiques shop in Centerville with his parents, June and Arthur Scritchfield, and continued a lifelong passion for art, antiques and collectibles.

Merlin was a visionary and a man of many passions and talents including a love of the outdoors, caring for animals and various wildlife (especially cats) and his fish ponds, building, painting, sculpting, whittling, carpentry, gardening, and most especially his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids.  Merlin was a friend to all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, June and Arthur Scritchfield; his Aunt, Valee McKinley; his grandson, Eric Mickels; and best friend, Dolly Kirby.

He is survived by his children, Mark (Candi) Scritchfield of Centerville, Iowa; Misty (Mac) Finley of Clarksburg, Missouri; Lisa (Jeff) Liston of Lovilia, Iowa; and Monty Scritchfield of Merritt Island, Florida; His grandchildren, Jay (Carey) Liston; Justin (Kathy) Liston; Jody (Jeff) Butler; Joshua (Rebecca) Mickels; Kelly Finley-Miller (Brian); Mathew (Alisha) Pearson; Katie Finley (Shawn Freeman); Kristen Finley; Beth Scritchfield; Luke (Becky) Scritchfield; and Aimee; his 24 great grandchildren; his Cousins, Gary and Aaron McKinley;  a nephew, Richard Kirby; as well as many other nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Celebration of Life service, with Pastor Howard Luscan officiating, will be held at the Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville, Iowa, on Saturday, October 5 at 2:00pm with family visitation that day from 1:00pm to 2:00pm. Inurnment will follow the service at the Unionville Cemetery in Unionville, Missouri.  Memorials have been established to Furever Friends or EveryStep Hospice, and may be dropped off or mailed to Lange Funeral Home, 1900 South 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544.
