Marylin Shipley-Overturf, 89, of Ottumwa, passed away Saturday, June 4, 2022 peacefully in Ankeny, Iowa surrounded by her daughters Kathy and Jennifer, and their families.
Marylin was born March 15, 1933 in Ottumwa to Frank and Mary M. Forsythe Finley. Marylin married Joe Martin Shipley on January 17, 1954 and shared 58 loving years until his passing on March 14, 2012. She married Paul Eugene Overturf in May of 2015 and he preceded her in dearth on October 30, 2021.
A graduate of Ottumwa High School, Marylin had worked for Colormaster in Ottumwa and for over 30 years at Dexter in Fairfield.
She had attended the Church of the Brethren, Hickory Grove Community Church and Zion Community Church of God. She enjoyed sewing, music, painting, planting in her yard, but nothing compared to her love for God, her church and her church friends. Her commitment and love of God was apparent in all she did.
After Paul’s passing in October of 2021, Marylin spent her last months living with Kathy Jo and Jennifer and their families who loved and cared for her until the end. Hospice of the Midwest helped the girls in the last weeks of her life and she passed peacefully surrounded by love.
Surviving are her children, Collin (Debbie) Shipley, Kathy Jo (Stephen) Craft, Deanna (Keith) Johnson, David (Brenda) Shipley and Jennifer (Chris) Mincks; step-children, Paula (Robert) Burress, Nita (Jack) O’Laughlin and Wayne (Mary Jo) Overturf; 12 grandchildren; numerous great and great-great grandchildren; and a brother, Kenneth Finley of Deland, FL.
She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Heather Ward; a great-granddaughter, Tierra Stansberry; a sister, Janet Hilgeman and an infant brother, Charles Finley.
Visitation will be open after 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 7th at Reece Funeral Home with her family present to greet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 8th at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Marthana Newland officiating. For those unable to attend, you may view the service on the Reece Funeral Home Facebook page. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations to Hospice of the Midwest or the Alzheimer’s Association.
