Martha Elizabeth Carter Marker was born January 26, 1942 in Ottumwa, IA to Clyde and Doris McMickle Carter.    She attended school in Eldon, IA and on July 23, 1961 she married Loren Marker. The two later divorced, but during their time together they became the proud parents to three children; Bryan, Michele, and Melinda.  Martha worked hard as a mother and helped to support her family by working as an office manager. She was employed at Des Moines Blueprint and Beeline and Blue where she managed day to day office operations. She retired after 32 years of dedicated service.  After retirement her love for family brought her home to Ottumwa. She worked at the Ottumwa Hy-Vee for eight years until her health would no longer allow her to do so.

Martha was a member of the Eldon United Methodist Church.  She enjoyed camping and fishing, as well as latch hook and putting together puzzles.  She was a collector of Gothic House and cardinal memorabilia. She never missed an opportunity to spend time with family, which always included laughter and memories from years past that always brought a smile to her face.  Martha fought a courageous, seven-year battle with cancer. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend who made an imprint on many lives in the time that she was here.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Clyde and Fred Carter; two sisters, Rosemary Carter and Betty Shumaker; one nephew, Terry Shumaker and the children’s father Loren Marker.

Left to share her story are her children, Bryan Marker (Christopher Erickson) of Des Moines, IA, Michele Marker (Mark Skinner) of Cedar Rapids, and Melinda (Graham) Charron of New Virginia, IA; five grandchildren, Jeremiah Love, Stacey Wyatt, Amber Perry, and Jorden and Jade Charron, as well as ten great grandchildren; four sisters, Lucille Sapp, Dorothy Wells, Ruth Ann Downing, and Patty (Denny) Durflinger; one brother, Allen (Martha) Carter; lifelong best friend, Lori Peercy, as well as many very special nieces and nephews.
