Margaret C. Vittetoe, 83, of Ottumwa, died at 1:25 p.m. October 24, 2022 at University Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City.

She was born January 30, 1939 in Ottumwa to Donald Vere and Geraldine R. Carr Crumley. Margaret married Raymond A. Vittetoe on October 8, 1960 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Lovilia and he preceded her in death on February 6, 2019.

A 1957 graduate of Lovilia High School and a graduate of St. Joseph School of X-Ray, Margaret worked as an x-ray technician at St. Joseph Hospital before becoming a full-time mother. She later went back to work as an x-ray tech for Dr. Berg and Dr. Brindley, retiring in 2004.

Margaret was a member of St. Mary of the Visitation where she was involved with the Ministry of Care and as a Eucharistic Minister as well as was a member of the Altar & Rosary Society. Margaret was a member of the Ottumwa Symphony Orchestra and served on the board, a member of Ottumwa Civic Music, Questers, Antique Friends, T.T.T., State Association of Radiology Technologists, a founding member of Hospice Serving Davis & Wapello Counties Auxiliary and she had served on the St. Joseph Hospital Board.

Surviving are her five sons, John (Joni) Vittetoe of Omaha, NE, Michael Vittetoe of Chino Hills, CA, Joseph (Kim) Vittetoe of Berthoud, CO, Dr. David (Sarah) Vittetoe of Adel and Stephen (Amy) Vittetoe of Crystal Lake, IL; 10 grandchildren, Jenna (Jeff) Ryckman, Lydia (Craig) Nashleanas, Isaac (Natallia) Vittetoe, Austin Vittetoe, Cooper Vittetoe, Zachary (Alexis) Vittetoe, Emma Vittetoe, Mary Margaret Vittetoe, Sam Vittetoe and Molly Vittetoe; two great-granddaughters, Emilia and Lucille.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Robert S. “Bob” Crumley and infant John William Crumley.

Visitation will be open after 10 a.m. Sunday, October 30th, at Reece Funeral Home. Reciting of the Rosary followed by a Christian Wake service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 30th at the funeral home. For those unable to attend, the service may be viewed on the Reece Funeral Home Facebook page. Following the service, her family will be present to greet friends until 5 p.m. Sunday.

Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Monday, October 31st, at St. Mary of the Visitation with Father Dale Mallory presiding. For those unable to attend, the service may be viewed on the Reece Funeral Home Facebook page. Cremation will follow the service. Inurnment will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery in Lovilia at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to St. Mary of the Visitation, or Ottumwa Symphony Orchestra.
