Margaret Kay Grooms, 77, of Cape Coral, Florida, formerly of Ottumwa, Iowa, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on April 5, 2022, at 1:32 p.m. at Tampa General Hospital in Tampa, Florida. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.

She was born September 23, 1944 in Ottumwa, Iowa to Burl and Zelma Howk Brown.

As a young woman, she enjoyed working at Hofmann Drug and Bookin Jewelry. After graduating from Ottumwa High School in 1963, she married her high school sweetheart, Larry Dean Grooms on November 23, 1963. Their romance lasted all 58 years and they were blessed with three children and eight grandchildren who were the light of her life.

Her Christian faith was an important part of her life. Larry and Margaret had been active members of Wildwood Evangelical Free Church for many years. She faithfully and joyfully served in many capacities including her beautiful flower arrangements. Margaret was always thinking of others and loved finding that perfect gift for someone as this gave her great joy. She had many talents including designing floral arrangements for weddings, sewing, flower gardening, decorating, and crafting. She also enjoyed water aerobics with her friends, traveling, playing with her grandchildren, celebrating Christmas, sunbathing, going to the beach, and of course shopping, especially with her daughter. Margaret touched the lives of so many people with her generosity and love and will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her husband, Larry; their children, Rodney (Bridgett) Grooms of Ottumwa, Bradley (Heather) Grooms of Drakesville, and Angela (Justin) Dawson of Cape Coral, FL; 8 grandchildren, Hoyt, Zackary, Allison, Emily, Trent and Jacob Grooms, Wyatt and Felicity Dawson; sister Kathy (Lloyd) Patrick; sister-in-law, Pam Brown, mother-in-law, Geneva Grooms. brothers-in-law, Gary (Rachel) Grooms, Les (Nancy) Grooms, Greg Grooms and Nick (Cindy) Grooms.

She was preceded in death by her father, Burl Brown; her mother, Zelma Brown; brothers, Merlon and Mel Brown; sister, Carolyn Emberton; sister-in-law, Sylvia ”Bunny” Brown; and father-in-law, Warren Grooms.

Please join Margaret’s family in celebrating her life 1 p.m. Saturday, April 16th at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Mel Kendall officiating. For those unable to attend, the service may be viewed on the Reece Funeral Home Facebook page.
The family will be present to greet friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday, noon to 1 p.m.
Memorials may be made to Heartland Pregnancy Center.
