By Kyle Smith, February 22, 2019

Mahaska Health has been recognized as a Top 100 Critical Access Hospital for the 2nd Year in a row.

Mahaska Health announced its recognition as one of the Top 100 Critical Access Hospitals in the United States, according to The Chartis Center for Rural Health.  It is considered one of the industry’s highest regarded designations, and is based on the results of the Hospital Strength INDEX from iVantage Health Ananlytics.

Mahaska Health CEO Kevin DeRonde stated “Mahaska Health is honored to be recognized as a Top 100 Critical Access Hospital for the second year in a row.  Every day, our clinical and administrative staff strive to provide the best patient-centered experience for our community members. This recognition is a testament to the outstanding work of our team as they consistently go above and beyond to implement best practices.”

Hospitals recognized as Top 100 facilities scored in the top 100 among Critical Access Hospitals nationally.  This is based on 50 rural-relevant indicators across eight categories of hospital strength:  Inpatient Market Share, Outpatient Market Share, Cost, Charge, Quality, Outcomes, Patient Perspective and Financial Stability.

Michael Topchik, the National Leader of The Chartis Center for Rural Health remarked “In an era of increased complexity and uncertainty, Top 100 hospitals have established themselves as a bellwether for rural provider performance. Top 100 status is a real indicator of how proactive these hospitals are when it comes to pushing for performance improvement in areas such as quality, outcomes, patient safety, market share and finance.”
