Congressman Dave Loebsack announced earlier this week six law enforcement agencies–one of which was the Ottumwa Police Department–were the 2020 recipients of the Edward Byrne Justice Assistance Grant (JAG).
According to a press release, the grant supports law enforcement’s efforts to prevent crime, keep families and communities safe, and keep drugs off the street.
The Ottumwa Police Department received $15,462 which can be used for state and local initiatives, technical assistance, training, personnel, equipment, supplies, contractual support, and information systems for criminal justice.
“Byrne JAG awards help support local law enforcement agencies in their efforts to keep Iowa families safe,” said Loebsack in a statement. “I am pleased these law enforcement agencies are receiving this funding to help reduce crime and enhance public safety. These men and women, who are sworn to protect and serve, deserve to have the necessary training and equipment to properly serve our communities.”
