Local Director Awarded Bob Ady Scholarship

By Aaryn Frazier, September 19, 2018

The Mid-America Economic Development Council board of directors awarded Midwest U.S. businesses and corporations with the Bob Ady Scholarship for economic growth, and one recipient was an Ottumwa local.

Applicants were evaluated based on their interest in economic development overall, as well as their interest in the Mid-America Economic Development Council, according to a press release from Mid-America. Sharon Stroh, executive director at Ottumwa Economic Development Corp, was one recipient out of ten in the whole region.

“The MAE Development Council’s Competitive Conference and Site Selector Forum is one of the most prominent events in the Midwest. This will be the first time I’ve had the chance to attend. In my mind, my greatest take-away will be the chance to sit face-to-face with Site Selectors from around the nation and discover what they find most beneficial as they look at properties and communities to develop new business,” Stroh said. “OEDC can learn how to better position our city and county for growth and jobs.”

Stroh also commented on the benefits of other locals applying for the opportunity next year.

“This is an opportunity for rural economic developers to get exposed to some very professional partners that might otherwise be out of our reach,” said Stroh.
