BURLINGTON, IA – For the fourth time in six events this Fall, Ottumwa junior golfer Cale Leonard captured medalist honors at the Burlington Greyhound Invitational Monday at Flint Hills Golf Course. Leonard fired a one-under 70 in the 18-hole tournament, edging Burlington’s Nate Spear by a stroke. Ultimately, Ottumwa finished third in the team standings with an overall score of 332. Burlington won their home Invite by beating Assumption Davenport by a stroke: 317-318.
In other individual round scores for the Bulldogs, senior Joe Hammer collected his fifth top-five finish of the season with a three-over 74, placing him third on the individual leaderboard. The four other Ottumwa golfers on the links each broke 100 on the score card: junior Tyse Barker (14th – 92), senior Mitch Wood (15th – 96), and seniors Thomas Mitchell and Jackson Saunders tied for 16th with rounds of 97.
The Bulldogs will be back on the links Wednesday at Copper Creek in Pleasant Hill for the Southeast Polk Invitational versus the host Rams, Ankeny Centennial, Ankeny, Dowling Catholic, Indianola, Norwalk, Urbandale, and Valley.
