Legacy Foundation Awards Grants

By Jason Van Arkel, October 04, 2019

The Outtumwa Regional Legacy Foundation has announced the awarding of grants to four local organizations, with the amount of money being given totaling nearly $40,000.

The grants, which come from the Robert McCune Endowment, will be given to Hospice of Wapello County, Indian Hills Community College, the Susan G. Komen Foundation, and the McCreery Cancer Center at Ottumwa Regional Health Center. Each grant is designed to assist with health care efforts in Wapello County.

The grant to Hospice of Wapello County will provide funding to purchase mattresses for Stryker beds at the facility. The money earmarked for IHCC will fund a continuing education conference for nurses and other health professionals who work with cancer patients. The gift to the Susan G. Komen Foundation will support attendees of annual Komen Survivor Luncheon.

The grant for the McCreery Cancer Center will serve multiple projects. Some of the funding will provide treatment completion recognition items, patient care comfort items, gas cards for the transportation fund, and the subsidization of medical payments for underinsured and uninsured patients. The money will also fun continuing education opportunities for health professionals who provide radiology oncology treatment, at the American Society of Radiation Oncology’s annual conference.
