Lee Ann Kjer, 63, of Ottumwa, died at 2:41 p.m. February 18, 2023 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

She was born September 9, 1959 in Canton, IL to Richard Blake and Virginia Lee Mannock Knickerbocker. She married Jerry J. Kjer December 28, 1991 in Ottumwa.

A 1977 graduate of Valley High School in London Mills, IL and a 1981 graduate of Central College in Pella, she moved to Ottumwa in December of 1990. She was the manager of Country Kitchen Restaurant for a few years and then worked there part time before she became a full time mother. As her family became grown, she worked part-time at M & J Art Gallery and part-time at South Hy-Vee.

She was a member of Northgate Alliance Church where she was very involved. She served on the PTA at the Montessori Preschool and Wildwood Elementary, serving as Treasurer of both organizations. She volunteered at Heartland Pregnancy Center and the Salvation Army. Lee Ann was an excellent cook, starting from her days growing up in the Reformed Church in Illinois.

Surviving is her husband, Jerry; their three daughters, Ginny Lu Kjer, Lucy Mei (Kyle) MacQueen and Ellie Meng Kjer; three sisters, Cynthia Knickerbocker of Fairview, IL, Patricia (Joe) Henderson of Mosinee, WI and Scheralyn (Greg) Gibb of Evans, GA; along with several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be open after 10 a.m. Thursday, February 23rd at Reece Funeral Home with her family present to greet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 24th at Northgate Alliance Church with Pastor Jim Eschenbrenner officiating. Cremation will follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Northgate Alliance Church or Holt International Children’s Services.
