Kevin Brehm, 63, of Oskaloosa, passed away unexpectedly Monday, July 18, 2022, at Mahaska Health in Oskaloosa.

Kevin Daniel Brehm, son of Daniel John and Joyce Elaine (Knotts) Brehm, was born May 2, 1959, in Burlington, Iowa. As a young man, he attended Burlington schools and enjoyed playing trumpet in the high school band. He also played various instruments in a rock band with his high school friends. While in high school, he met the love of his life, Laura Lynne Roberts. They married on August 2, 1980, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Burlington. That year, Kevin began his working career with Alliant Energy in Chillicothe, IA. He began as a utility man and worked his way up to the control room. He was soon headed to the safety department and was later promoted to operations manager. He also served on the Rope Rescue and First Responder Team at Alliant. Kevin enjoyed his 42-year career and the people he worked with; he also enhanced his skills by earning his Bachelor’s degree in business management from the University of Phoenix and later his Master’s degree in business management from William Penn University. He was looking forward to his retirement in October 2022.

Kevin was an avid bicycler and a Bike Burlington Bike club member with his father-in-law, Lyle Roberts. They traveled to Burlington on weekends to attend events and biked over 21 RAGBRAIs since 1984. The family traveled to Hawaii often to watch Lyle compete in the Iron-man competitions. Kevin just enjoyed being outside ­ he loved gardening and landscaping his yard. His family was always his priority, and he cherished his time with them thoroughly.

Kevin’s family includes his wife, Laura; his daughters and sons-in-law, Gabrielle and Ryan Van Dalen and Chantalle and Cody Brown, both of Oskaloosa; his granddaughter, Teagan Van Dalen; parents: Daniel and Joyce Brehm of Burlington; a sister, Danette (Todd) Brandstetter of Middletown, IA; his mother and father-in-law, Lyle and Betty Roberts of Burlington; and several nieces and nephews.

Kevin was preceded in death by a brother, Todd Brehm.

Funeral services for Kevin will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 23, 2022, at Langkamp Funeral Chapel & Crematory, with Rev. Chad Lierman of the Central United Methodist Church officiating. Cremation will follow the service with burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Burlington. Visitation will begin at noon on Friday; the family will greet visitors from 4-7 p.m. Memorial contributions can be made to the Stephen Memorial Animal Shelter.
