Judy Kay (Gladfelder) Cox, age 79, of Moravia, passed away Monday, June 27, 2022 at MercyOne Medical Center in Centerville.

Judy was born on April 17, 1943 in Centerville, Iowa, the daughter of Kenneth V. Gladfelder and Rissie Pauline (Foster) Gladfelder.  She graduated from Moravia High School with the Class of 1961.  On January 28, 1961, Judy was united in marriage to Dale A. Cox at the Main Station Church.  To this union, four children were born, Bryan, Marla, Kevin and Amy.

Judy drove a school bus for 30 years for the Moravia School District, worked in the kitchen at the school and picked up the kids with special needs.  She loved working for the school.  Judy drove for lots of the kids’ sports, band, and musical activities. (She was the kids’ biggest fan”.)

In her spare time, Judy volunteered for the Moravia Fire Department and was a First Responder for several years.  She was on the Fall Festival Committee and she and Dale were named King and Queen of the Fall Festival.

Judy enjoyed dancing, being outdoors, fishing, picking wildflowers, mushrooms, working in her yard, camping, and hunting for arrowheads.   She was fond of cooking and baking for her family and having birthday dinners.   Her great grandchildren often called her “Grandma Cookie”. Most importantly, Judy loved her family, and spending time with all of them.

Left to cherish Judy’s memory are her children, Bryan Cox; Marla (Steve) Smith, Kevin (Katy) Cox, and Amy (Chris) Spencer; her grandchildren, Tarah (Matt) Wright, Whitney (Cody) Cox, Tanner (Alesha) Cox, Kari Smith, Bracken (Savannah) Smith, Ben Cox, Sophie Cox, Henry Cox, Finley Spencer, Kenna Spencer and Jaida Spencer; her great grandchildren, Lexi, Kayden, Caison, Noah, Madi, Sylar, Keaton, Jace, Kynslee, Charlee and Kohen; as well as several extended family members and friends.

Judy was preceded in death by her husband, Dale Cox; her parents, Kenneth and Rissie Gladfelder; two brothers, Robert Charles Gladfelder and Gene Gladfelder; her daughter-in-law, Kelli Cox; and her granddaughter, Taylor Mattly.

Per Judy’s wishes, cremation has been accorded.  A Celebration of Life service will be held on at 11AM, Friday, July 1, 2022 at Lange Funeral Home in Moravia with Pastor Terry Chapman officiating.  Visitation will take place Friday, July 1, 2022 at Lange Funeral Home in Moravia with the family greeting friends from 9-11AM.  Memorials have been established to the Moravia Fire and Rescue and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, ATTN: Judy Cox family, 1900 South 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544.
