She attended school in Ollie, graduating with the Ollie High School Class of 1951. In 1953 in Lancaster, IA she was united in marriage to the love of her life Russell Yoder. This was the first chapter in their story that lasted over 62 years. Together they became the loving parents of four children: Pat, Brenda, Danita and Duane. Joyce was the true definition of homemaker and housewife. She made sure that everything was running smoothly at home as well as helping Russell on the farm. Joyce wore many hats as the matriarch of her family. She cared for her parents and her family, raised beautiful gardens and flowers and was a gifted baker. She was also a gifted seamstress, making clothes and quilts for her family. Joyce remained active outside of the home as well. She was a long-time member of the Ollie Baptist Church, Grandma’s Club, Quilting Club, and the “I’ll Be Seeing You” Club. She and Russell enjoyed attending the occasional square dance with friends and made many memories on their family trips to Colorado, Michigan and Texas. Together they were able to take the trip of a lifetime to Alaska in 2013 to visit her brother Norman. Joyce loved her job as wife and mother. She cared deeply for her family and as time passed, she became a loving grandmother and great grandmother. Joyce set an example for the generations to come, living a life of faith and love. She will be deeply missed by her family and many friends.
