Joshua Alan Kessel was born on November 25, 1997 in Ottumwa, IA to Robert and Carol Lee Ferrell Kessel. He attended grade school and high school in Fairfield where he graduated with the class of 2017. During school he was active in sports, excelling in football and wrestling. He also had a gift for music and played the baritone saxophone as well as the guitar. He was also very artistic. After graduation Josh entered the workforce and was most recently employed at Everybody’s Whole Foods in Fairfield. He enjoyed working out at the gym and playing retro and current video games with his brothers and friends. Josh did not know a stranger. His life was rooted deep in his faith. He would often read the Bible and would minister to others. Josh always looked to help where he could, whether mowing the lawn for someone who couldn’t or just being a good listener for someone who needed to talk. He packed a lot of life in his 21 years and the world is a better place because he was here.

Josh was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, George and Wanda Kessel and his maternal grandparents, Robert and Vivienne Ferrell.

Left to honor his memory are his parents, Robert and Carol Lee Kessel of Fairfield, IA; two brothers, Jake and Jonathan Kessel, Aunts and Uncles, Pat and Suzan Kessel, Mike and Christine Kessel, Jane Adam, Karen and Chris Clingan, Steve and Lori Kessel, Susan White, Amy and Scott Hudson, Bill and Christin Kessel, great-aunt and great uncle Glenn and Connie Ferrell, cousins by the dozens, along with many extended family and the numerous friends he made along the way. He touched many lives and spread the love of Christ everywhere he went. He will be greatly missed.
