Seven new large square balers made at the John Deere Ottumwa Works plant are on their way to Idaho after being introduced in Ottumwa this morning. The balers are the first new product line built at the Ottumwa Plant in 20 years.
After being unveiled at the plant a caravan of seven semi’s made its way to City Hall where a brief ceremony was held.
Plant manager David Bradford told a crowd he is pleased to see the efforts of those involved in the production of the balers and said it’s the beginning of a long line. Bradford said 35.7-million dollars was invested during the past 4 years.
Ottumwa Mayor Tom Lazio told the crowd the new baler will be outstanding and was pleased the company chose to stop by city hall to show the balers to the world. Lazio closed by saying the balers will be a success worldwide and are being built in Ottumwa, Iowa.
