Jerry Hill

Jerry Mikel Hill, age 84, of Moravia, Iowa, passed away Monday, December 24, 2018 at the Monroe Care Center in Albia, Iowa.

Jerry was born on December 2, 1934 in Ottumwa, Iowa, the son of Charles “Ed” and Mabel (Clifton) Hill.  He enlisted in the United States Army to serve in the Korean War at the age of 18.  He was honorably discharged in October of 1954.  He was united in marriage to Shirley Parsons on December 26, 1954.  To this union, two children were born, Vickie and Lori.

Following his military service, Jerry was employed through the Iowa DNR as a Ranger.  He held this position for nearly 40 years until retirement.  He enjoyed woodworking and music, especially playing the guitar.  He learned to play the guitar during his retirement.

Jerry was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Moravia.  He was on the Appanoose County Conservation Board for 12 years.  He was also a member of the Moravia Ruritans.

Left to honor Jerry’s memory are his wife, Shirley Hill of Moravia; his daughters, Vickie (Tim) Reynolds of Anamosa, and Lori (Randy) Scott of Albia; four grandchildren, Aaron Reynolds, Amanda (Damian) Thorstenson, Jared Scott, and Branden (Katie) Scott; four great grandchildren, Skylar Scott, Tessa Scott, Colton Engel and Sean Reynolds; a sister, Maxine Felt; a half-sister, Janet Lathrop; and twin half-brothers, Terry and Larry Brosart.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Mabel Hill; his siblings, Bernice Hintze and Marion Fulton; as well as three brothers-in-law, Merwin Felt, Ray Hintze, and John Fulton.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1 PM, Sunday, December 30, 2018 at Lange Funeral Home in Moravia with Pastor Christy Ehrle officiating.  Military rites will take place immediately following the service at Lange Funeral Home in Moravia.  Memorials have been established to either the Grace United Methodist Church or the Moravia First Responders, and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, 1900 South 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544.  Condolences may be shared online at
