Iowa State women’s basketball senior point guard Nikki Moody earned her second Big 12 Player of the Week award, the league announced Monday. The award is her fourth Big 12 weekly honor, as she was named Big 12 Freshman of the Week three times in 2011-12 and Big 12 Player of the Week on Feb. 9, 2015.
Moody had one of the best weeks of her career scoring a combined 29 points, dishing 20 assists and grabbing eight boards as she led Iowa State to a 2-0 week and its first win over Baylor since 2010.
On Tuesday against the Lady Raiders, Moody netted 16 points and dished nine assists, tying Iowa State career assists record at 719.
Going into Saturday’s game against No. 3 Baylor, Moody needed just one assist to own ISU’s all-time assist mark. Moody broke the school record by the under-16 timeout with an assist off a 3-pointer from Fallon Ellis. With the game at 72-71 late, senior Brynn Williamson got a tough defensive rebound and quickly kicked it to Moody who found Seanna Johnson down the court for an open layup to give Iowa State a 74-71 lead with 1:19 on the clock. Her heroics would continue after netting a layup with 0:39 on the clock to give ISU a hard-fought 76-71 victory.
