Iowa Sweet Corn Returns

Iowans that have been patiently waiting for sweet corn to hit local stores and stands will now have a chance to sample the longtime dietary staple.

Wednesday in Des Moines, Governor Kim Reynolds signed a proclamation that recognized July 10th, 2019 as “Sweet Corn Day.” The day acknowledges the statewide availability of sweet corn.

Ottumwa Radio News talked to a representative of the north side Ottumwa Hy-Vee who confirmed that sweet corn is currently in stores for purchase.

While it is unofficially celebrated on Independence Day (July 4th), this year’s Sweet Corn Day had to be pushed back due to cold, wet weather early in the planting season that delayed farmers getting their corn in the ground.
