Holiday Nights and Lights Records 22% Increase in Traffic

The 13th Annual Holiday Nights and Lights display in the Greater Ottumwa Park recorded another successful year with record-breaking numbers.

The display is put on by the Ottumwa Area Chamber of Commerce as a fundraiser for local non-profit groups.

Connie Hammersley-Wilson, the Executive Director of the Chamber, told Ottumwa Radio News that a record number of season passes were sold this year.

“We had to close for the horrible weather we had right before Christmas in 2016,” Wilson said. “We made up for it this year and it was a record-breaking year for the event.”

17,271 guests visited the display in 2017, an increase of nearly 20% over 2016 numbers. 4,365 vehicles drove through the park, a 22% increase over 2016.

“I’m very appreciative of the sponsors that made this happen, the non-profits and organizations that volunteered,” Wilson added. “Without them, this community event would not happen.”

The Chamber Director says the funds will be divided up amongst several non-profit groups. The final numbers will be released after the January 25th meeting of the Chamber Board of Directors.
