Though the ongoing pandemic has seen many events cancelled or postponed, one of Ottumwa’s holiday traditions will still take place.
According to a press release, the City of Ottumwa wanted to let the public know that the Holiday Nights And Lights will go forward as planned. Mayor Tom Lazio and City Administrator Phillip Rath met with both the Trails Committee and Shea Greiner of Greater Ottumwa Partners in Progress to clarify that the event would be held this year. The Trails Committee has traditionally held a walk through of the displays on the Friday night prior to the opening of the event.
According to the press release, in the event of inclement weather, especially rain, the GFCI (ground fault circuit interrupter) devices will shut down the lights. Announcements about the weather will be made by GOPIP during the course of the event.
” we are happy that the event will continue and will give families some out of the house time.” said ottumwa mayor tom lazio.
