Heckethorn’s First Trial Scheduled

The young shooter, Jacob Haze Heckethorn, and his lawyer filed a written arraignment and will go to trial.

In the arraignment, Heckethorn waived his right to a speedy trial in favor of a jury trial scheduled for 9 a.m. on December 11, 2018. Before the trial is a pretrial conference set for 9 a.m. at the Wapello County Courthouse on November 26.

However, current Wapello County Attorney, Gary Oldenburger the trial will undoubtedly be pushed back further into next year.

The trial is for the one count of murder and one count of attempted murder. His part in the Collett case will be another trial, that does not have a date as of yet.

No further information is known at the moment, but Ottumwa Radio will keep updated as this case and the Collett case progress.
