Governor Reynolds Announces Home Town Water Tower Contest

By Ellis Codjoe, August 14, 2019

Governor Kim Reynolds and Lieutenant Governor Adam Gregg announced the Home Town Water Tower Contest Wednesday, a day after Drinking Water Day.

Communities thoroughout the Hawkeye State have been challenged to make a short video that showcases their hometown pride. The prize is a special water tower designed by a local artist.

The videos cannot be longer than two minutes and must feature a water element. Entrants can submit their videos to the Facebook page of the Iowa Finance Authority or Iowa Department of Natural Resources from August 19 to September 30. The winner will be decided via public vote from October 1-11.

“From Iowa’s largest cities to every rural community, water quality plays a fundamental role in our way of life,” said Gov. Reynolds in a statement. “This contest is a perfect chance for communities to share their special ‘it factor’ that sets their hometown apart. I can’t wait to see the videos!”

According to the Governor’s office, 2,000 State Revolving Fund (SRF) water quality loans made have been made to Iowa communities to advance water quality efforts. Iowa Finance Authority Executive Director Debi Durham says they are looking forward to helping more.
