George Randolph Osing, 63, of rural Blakesburg, formerly of Eddyville, passed away February 15, 2021 peacefully at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born in 1957 to George and Eunice Boyer Osing in Ottumwa. Randy grew up in Eddyville and graduated from Eddyville High School in 1976. While in school, he played baseball, basketball and ran track. After graduation, Randy continued to play pickup basketball with his buddies at the Eddyville Grade school and played slow-pitch softball for the Eddyville team.
As a boy, he delivered newspapers for the Ottumwa courier. He also worked for many farmers, detasseling corn and putting up hay. He also worked for his father in construction. After a long career with Winger Construction, he worked for Albia and Eddyville Schools. Randy’s favorite job was as a custodian for the schools because he enjoyed and cared for the children. In return, they loved him too. He said he did his jobs as if he was doing it the for the Lord. In addition, Randy was a volunteer for the auxiliary police force and a volunteer fireman for the Eddyville Fire Department. When Randy’s nephews were young, he and his brother, Doug, coached the boys’ Little League teams, the Blakesburg Lions and Giants.
Randy enjoyed hunting, fishing and doing yard work around the family farm. He looked forward to his class reunions where he loved to showcase high school memorabilia that he had collected. He especially enjoyed attending the Iowa State Fair and the What Cheer flea market with his buddies. One of his favorite things was to attend the Osing Family Reunions where he was always the Bingo caller. He was also an avid Iowa Hawkeye and Chicago Cubs fan. Some of his fondest memories were when the Hawkeyes reached the 2016 Rose Bowl game and when the Chicago Cubs won the World Series in 2016.
Randy attended the First Assembly of God Church in Oskaloosa and First Pentecostal Assembly of God in Ottumwa. More recently he enjoyed attending the Christiansburg United Methodist Church in rural Blakesburg.
Randy is survived by his mother, Eunice Osing of rural Blakesburg; brother, Doug (Lynne) Osing of rural Blakesburg; two nephews whom he loved dearly and was extremely proud of, Griffin (Cassidy) Osing of Aberdeen, SD and Gannon Osing of rural Blakesburg; as well as many cousins, aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his father, George; his grandparents, George and Marguerite Osing and Errett and Esther Boyer; and numerous cousins, aunts and uncles.
