The Wapello County Conservation Board announced a virtual fishing contest to take place next weekend
The weekend of June 5th-9th is designated as Free Fishing Weekend, meaning any Iowa resident can fish without a fishing license. The Wapello County Conservation Board will be hosting a virtual fishing contest on that weekend. The contest will take place June 5 – 7, and the WCCB will offer fishing equipment for use from 8:00 a.am to 12:00 p.m. Saturday at Pioneer Ridge Nature Center. According to CDC guidelines, any fishing equipment that is used and returned will not be available for use for the remainder of the day.
The rules for the fishing contest are as follows:
- You must be 18 years of age or younger to enter
- You must be fishing at a pond owned by the WCCB: including Pioneer Ridge Nature Area, Sycamore Wildlife Area, Grey Eagle Wildlife Preserve, and the Eddyville Sand Dunes
- You must post a picture of you fishing and/or a fish you caught to our Facebook page (you don’t need to catch a fish to enter)
- Include in your photo post where you were fishing, what kind of fish you caught (if you caught one), and even how big it was if you want. Posts must be made by midnight June 7 to be eligible
A winner will be selected on Monday, June 8. The prize includes a fishing rod and reel, a few lures and baits, and a tackle box. The winner will be contacted by noon on June 8th and will also be posted to the WCCB Facebook page.
