Four juvenile runaways from Mount Pleasant were found in Keokuk and charged after allegedly stealing a car.
Three 13-year-olds and a 15-year-old were transported to the Juvenile Detention Center. Each of them was charged with aiding and abetting first-degree theft and possession of stolen property (Class C felonies) after Keokuk police last week.
The stolen car was recovered when the runaways were found.
According to the Mount Pleasant Police Department, the four teens–two boys and two girls–ran away from the Christamore House around 7:30 PM on February 23rd. At 9:00 PM on the same day, a resident reportedly discovered the juveniles going through a vehicle and chased them off.
According to a report from Daily Gate City, 18-year-old Dustin Gilbert of Keokuk was discovered in the area with the runaways and was charged with possession of marijuana. Gilbert was cited and released.
