Florence “Pauline” Webber Likes Roecklein, age 103, of Holts Summit, Missouri, passed away on August 9, 2022.

Pauline was born April 6, 1919, to Ray E. and Ona Webber of Stockport, Iowa where she attended the local Spencer School and later graduated with the class of 1937 from Stockport High School. She went on to attend the Iowa Success Business College in Ottumwa and upon graduation accepted a secretarial position with the Van Buren County Attorney in 1939.

Prior to Pearl Harbor in 1941, Pauline accepted a position with The United States Army as a Civil Service employee and was assigned to a branch that was issuing commissions to officers and ordering them to war duty. When the Air Force became a separate department, she accepted a liaison correspondence position between Congress and the Air Force pertaining to officer personnel. She resigned in April of 1953.

Pauline married Captain Glenn L. Likes, a Marine Pilot who had been recalled to serve in the Korean War. Upon his relief from active duty, he returned to the University of Illinois to obtain a Mechanical Engineering Degree and upon completion, he accepted a position in Morton Grove and the family moved to Deerfield.

Pauline and Glenn became the parents of three children, James Vernon, Richard Scott and Nancy Dianna.

In September 1969 Glenn accepted a job in St. Louis and the family moved to Kirkwood, Missouri. In 1971 Glenn was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma and underwent chemotherapy treatments but later died in March of 1972.

Pauline was left to care for three teenagers and accepted a job working with youth that were blind or had sight problems to help them become independent from their parents. She took them into her home and taught them home skills such as cooking, cleaning, laundry, brown bag lunch, use of keys, etc. and later retired in 1982.

In 1983, Pauline married Robert (Bob) G. Roecklein, a widower who had served during WWII as a Plank Officer on a submarine. Bob had three grown children, Lynne, John and Paul. They lived in Kirkwood until 1989 when they moved to Corona, California. Bob later passed away in 2006.

Pauline was active in the Senior Mobile Home Park; served as Board Secretary for two years; and was a member of “Memorial” and “Getting to Know You” committees for years. In November of 2007, while preparing to serve a “Memorial Luncheon” with a friend, she fell on a rain-slicked street and broke her hip and shoulder. After surgery, rehab and lots of therapy, Pauline agreed to move back to Missouri to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy Dianna and Allen Price.

On August 30, 2012, Pauline’s son Richard passed away after several months of fighting cancer.

On July 6, 2013, while attending a church wedding, Pauline fell and broke both arms. Again, after securing the breaks, rehab and therapy, she regained the use of both arms.

In April of 2019, Nancy Dianna, family and friends threw a 100th birthday party for Pauline. Over 100 family and friends joined her to celebrate the milestone.

Pauline is survived by her son, Jim, and daughter Nancy Dianna; her brother Keith of Stockport, Iowa; three step-children, five grandchildren, three step grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; plus nieces and nephews. Pauline was grateful for the blessing of two husbands during her life, making a happy and enjoyable home.
