Five to Vie for City Council

By Ellis Codjoe, August 30, 2019

The deadline for residents to submit their paperwork has passed and Ottumwans now know who will be running for city council.

Two seats will be up for election this November. Current City Councilman Marc Roe declared his intentions to run for re-election earlier this month. Fellow Councilman Victory Streeby has decided not to seek a second term.

Four more nominees will be on the ballot.

Former council member Bob Meyers served for 12 years before deciding to step down in 2017.

John Richards was also a member of the city council, serving one four year term but was unable to get re-elected in 2015.

Wesley Crowder and Mark Peters wrap up the names on the ballot. Neither has been in the city council.

With the number of candidates more than doubling the open council seats, a primary–scheduled for October 8–will be conducted before the general election on November 5.

The top four vote-getters from the primary will advance to the general election a month later.
