Nowhere do Americans more intimately connect to sports than in their hometowns. \nThe Iowa Economic Development Authority’s Main Street Iowa (MSI) program in cooperation with Main Street Ottumwa will celebrate this connection as it hosts “Hometown Teams: How Sports Shape America\,” a traveling exhibition from the Smithsonian’s Museum on Main Street program. \n“Hometown Teams” will capture the stories that unfold on the neighborhood fields and courts\, and the underdog heroics\, larger-than-life legends\, fierce rivalries and gut-wrenching defeats. For more than 100 years\, sports have reflected the trials and triumphs of the American experience and helped shape the national character. Whether it is professional sports or those played on the collegiate or scholastic level\, amateur sports or sports played by kids on the local playground\, sports are everywhere in America. DESCRIPTION:Union Mills Christian Church is sponsoring a live\, dramatic portrayal of Corrie ten Boom on May 21st 6:30 pm at the North Mahaska High School in New Sharon\, Iowa. During WW2\, Corrie ten Boom and her family worked with the Dutch Underground to help save Jews and others who were being hunted by the Nazi’s. The Ten Booms were betrayed\, arrested and sent to prison.  Corrie is the only one in her family that survived the Nazi death camp. After the war\, Corrie set out to share her message of forgiveness. \nCome and hear Corrie’s inspiring story told in her own words from her autobiography\, “The Hiding Place” through this portrayal of Corrie by Iowa native\, Cheryl Buxamusa.  Cheryl lived many years in the Netherlands and knew Corrie well.  This is open to the public at no charge.
