American Gothic House Art Contest

The community of Eldon, Iowa, home of the little white house in Grant Wood’s most famous painting American Gothic, celebrates Gothic Days the second weekend every June. This year the American Gothic House Center invites students from area school districts as well as the general public to participate in our annual amateur art contest.

Rules of Art Work:

· Must include the American Gothic House in some form

· 8” x 10” or larger work- must be original AND display ready

· Any medium EXCEPT photography

· Is limited to two pieces of art work per person

· Art work must be submitted with entry form by May 27, 2022, at 5:00 p.m.

· All art work will be on display inside the American Gothic House June 10- 12, 2022

· No entry fee required

· Awards will be $40 for first place and $20 for second place in each division PLUS one $60 gift certificate from the American Gothic House Center gift shop for Best in Show

· First place winners and Best in Show will be displayed in the American Gothic House through mid-October

Division I Kindergarten through 2nd grade

Division II 3rd grade through 5th grade

Division III 6th grade through 8th grade

Division IV 9th grade through 12th grade

Division V Adult- Amateur

Division VI Adult- Professional

Participants will be required to certify that the art work submitted is original work and not a copy of material protected by copyright laws. Participants will also acknowledge that the art work is not insured during transportation, storage or display and will waive any claim of any nature whatsoever now or in the future against the Ottumwa Area Arts Council and American Gothic House Center for any loss, theft, or physical damage that may occur to the art work submitted.

Art work may be picked up AFTER 6/14/2022.
