Ellis Dean Paxston, age 65, of Moravia, passed away Wednesday, August 10, 2022 at his home.
Ellis was born on August 21, 1956 in Albia, Iowa, the son of Fay and Marjorie (O’Conner) Paxston.
Ellis donated many hours volunteering throughout the Moravia community that he cared so much for. He owned and operated a lawn mower shop in Moravia for many years. Ellis also worked as a Janitor for Moravia Schools for a period of time. He then accepted a position with the City of Moravia, working for over 25 years until his retirement. Subsequently, he was also a firefighter for Moravia Fire Department for over 35 years. He was also a member of the Appanoose County Pioneer Cemeteries Commission. In his free time, Ellis loved repairing monuments and the monument bases at Hillcrest Cemetery.
Left to honor Ellis’ memory are his sisters, Reta (Estel) Wolver of Moravia, Iowa and Carol (David) Nitzel of Unionville, Missouri; special friends, Heather Kraber and her daughter, Melannie of Moravia, and Jim Knapp of Moravia; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ellis was preceded in death by his parents, Fay and Marjorie Paxston; a brother, Dale Paxston, and his beloved friend, Judy Fosenburg.
According to wishes, cremation has been accorded. Graveside services will take place at 2:00PM, Sunday, August 21, 2022 at Hillcrest Cemetery in Moravia with Pastor Dennis Doud officiating.
