Doris Prough

Doris Marie Prough, 95, formerly of Ottumwa, passed away March 18, 2019 at the Iowa Veteran’s Home in Marshalltown.

She was born December 15, 1923 in Ottumwa to Frederick Henry and Linda Genevieve Thorne Bunch. Doris married Dean Halsey Prough on July 23, 1946 and he preceded her in death on May 24, 2017.

A graduate of Ottumwa High School and Indian Hills Community College, Doris had worked as a telephone operator from 1943 to 1949.  She was a Bailiff of District Court for Wapello County for 15 years and retired as Court Attendant for the State of Iowa in 1985.

Doris was a member of the First Christian Church, Past Worthy Matron and member of Ottumwa Chapter #112 Order of Eastern Star, a member of Rose Chapter #552 Order of Eastern Star, past member of Ottumwa Community Players, Past President of the P.T.A. at Agassiz and Evans Junior High and had served as a den mother.

Doris is survived by her son, Richard Dean (Joyce) Prough of Saint Robert, MO; her foster daughter, Patricia (Michael) Colliflower of Sanford, FL; her grandson, Frederick (Diane) Prough; great-grandchildren, Nathan and Rachel of Adel; step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren, Rachel (Doug) and Sylvia McMahan of Okeana OH, Erik (Juana) Saaranen, Rauha and Alma of Ottumwa and Anna Liisa (Curtis) Lundgren and Sonya and Eli of Ottumwa.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday at Reece Funeral Home.   The family will be present at the funeral home to receive friends from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Friday.

An Eastern Star Service will be recited at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home followed by the funeral service with Pastor Bill Hornback officiating.  Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown or Iowa River Hospice in Marshalltown.
