Donald Lee Visser, 91, of Bussey, passed away on January 2, 2023, under Hospice care at The Cottages in Pella, Iowa. Donald was born on December 19, 1931, at his parents’ home, Harold and Nellie (Bain) Visser, in Mahaska County, Iowa. He attended River Side Grade School and Oskaloosa High School. He met the love of his life, Dorothy Lucille McWilliams, at a 4-H meeting in 1948. They were married on March 5, 1950, at the United Methodist Church in Oskaloosa by the Rev. W.M. Scheuermann.

While in high school, Donald participated in track and was a member of the Garfield 4-H club. Donald was a farmer all his life. He also worked off the farm for Jude Coal, Garden Engineering, Ideal, Wahl and Rexroth, Henderson Implement, and Parker Bonnett Construction. He was a volunteer firefighter for the Hamilton Fire Department and served on the board at Union Liberty Church for many years. Donald took pride in keeping his pasture free of weeds and downed limbs. He was gifted in carpentry and spent hours on projects for his daughters and grandchildren. In later years, he found interest in genealogy and invested his time researching family history.

Paul Brooks guided Donald in accepting the Lord as his savior in 1963. He belonged to the Union Liberty Church for almost 50 years. Recently, he attended Cross Roads Gospel Church in rural Knoxville, Iowa.

Donald’s family includes his six daughters: Christine (Dennis) Stoffa of Ankeny, Connie Visser of Pella, Cindy (Rick) Waits of Pella, Carol (Randy) Rozenboom of Bussey, Coleen (Merlin) Bueltel of Fremont, and Cheryl (Larry) Main of Moravia; twelve grandchildren: Aaron (Jeanette) Stoffa, Jason (Kayla) Waits, Jessica (John) Roozeboom, Justin (Becky) Rozenboom, Ranae (Kyle) Thompson, Wendy (Jay) Wolver, Joe Lappin, Dustin Bueltel, Stacy Bueltel, Mitch (Jeannie) Main, Nick (Heather) Main, Mandy Main; twenty-one great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; three brothers: Gilbert, Robert and Merle (Pat); a brother-in-law Keith (Betty) McWilliams, a sister-in-law Mary McWilliams, and many nieces and nephews.

Donald was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; his parents, Harold and Nellie Visser; his parents-in-law, Roy and Lucille McWilliams; his brother Melvin (Carol) Visser; his sisters-in-law Mildred Visser, Bev Visser, Marla Visser, Marie McWilliams; and his brother-in-law Jerry McWilliams.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday morning, January 6, 2023, at Cross Roads Gospel Church in rural Knoxville, Iowa, with Pastor Leo Freel officiating. Burial will be at Beacon Cemetery in Beacon, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., Thursday, at the Langkamp Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa, with the family being present from 4-6 p.m. to greet visitors. Memorials may be made to the Cross Roads Gospel Church.
