UPDATE: The person killed in the officer shooting has been identified as 45-year-old Kevin Arbogast of Centerville. The DCI says his body will be transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Ankeny for an autopsy.
Authorities are investigating an officer-involved fatal shooting that occurred Sunday afternoon in Appanoose County.
According to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, two Centerville police officers responded to a domestic assault at 3:43 PM on the 21000 block of 560th Street outside of Centerville.
The DCI says the two officers and a deputy from the Appanoose County Sheriff’s Office were involved in an officer-involved shooting that resulted in the death of one person. The deceased is not known at this time. DCI says no law enforcement officer was injured in the shooting.
The involved officers have been placed on critical incident leave, per standard practice.
At the request of Appanoose County Sheriff Gary Anderson and Centerville Police Chief Tom Demry, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation will conduct an independent investigation of the shooting.
