Dave Harper Appointed Interim Principal At Evans, Aaron Deutsch As Assistant Principal


Evans Middle School has appointed a new Assistant Principal, along with an Interim Principal.

According to a press release, the Ottumwa School District has decided to appoint Executive Director of Operations and former Evans Principal from 2012-2014 Dave Harper as Interim Principal for the 2022-2023 school year. The district stated that placing Mr. Harper as an interim principal demonstrates the district’s commitment to excellence for Evans, and that his leadership would help build a strong culture and climate for Evans students and staff. The move is part of a proposed plan for creating personalized learning environments which includes turning Evans into an 8-9 grade building and Liberty into a 6-7 grade building for the 2023-24 school year.

Also announced was the appointment of Aaron Deutsch as one of the Assistant Principals at Evans for the 2022-23 school year. He currently serves as the 7-12 Dean of Students and Activities Director at Pekin. In 2020, he received the Governor’s Scholar Recognition for favorite teacher In addition to Mr. Deutsch, Ottumwa Schools will also be adding an additional Assistant Principal to further support Evans students and staff. Pending Board approval, Mr. Deutsch will begin August 1, 2022.
