Danny Gene Kesterson, age 72, of Oskaloosa, Iowa, passed away on October 28, 2022, at the MHP Serenity Hospice House in Oskaloosa surrounded by his loving family. Dan was born on August 12, 1950, at his parents home in Glenwood, Iowa, the son of Arlo and Betty (Potter) Kesterson. He lived on a farm the first 18 years of his life. He attended Prescott High School and graduated with the Class of 1968. Following graduation, he joined the United States Army during the Vietnam War. After serving his country, he was honorably discharged and move to Oskaloosa, Iowa to convince Mary Street to marry him. They were married on June 15, 1973 at the First Christian Reformed Church in Oskaloosa.

Dan started working at Clow Valve Company, then later worked at Pella Corp. For a time he worked at Fujitsu installing internet equipment. He started Kesterson Construction and worked with his son Justin. Later his daughter Danielle started working with him. He was a skilled wood worker and delighted in making keepsakes for his granddaughters and great granddaughters. He was a wonderful dad and a fantastic grandpa. His family was his pride and joy. He enjoyed fishing and going to car shows with his 1955 Ford; receiving several awards.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary; his children, Justin Kesterson of Cedar Rapids and Danielle (Jason) Gillaspie of Knoxville; 4 grandchildren, Samantha Gillaspie, Taylor (Darquell) Pierre and Brandon Gillaspie all of Knoxville and Ethan Kesterson of Marion; great granddaughters, Adison, Delilah and Tiana Pierre and his siblings, Sharon Royster, Jim (Ann) Kesterson and Robin Kesterson.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Arlo and Betty Kesterson and two brothers, Bob and Gerry Kesterson

Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel with Pastor Alvern Boetsma officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 1, 2022, in the Bates Funeral Chapel with the family present to greet friends and relatives. As was Dan’s wishes, he will be cremated following the visitation. Military Honors will be given by members of the Oskaloosa American Legion and V.F.W. Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be made to MHP Serenity Hospice House.
