Constance Jean Wilkening, 84, formerly of rural Hedrick, died at 12 p.m. October 14, 2021 at Vista Woods Care Center.
She was born August 26, 1937 in Ottumwa to Harold E. and Elizabeth Bell Critchlow. Connie married William “Bill” Wilkening on March 23, 1958 and he preceded her in death on September 24, 2002.
A graduate of Ottumwa High School, Connie had been a member of Farson Baptist Church and taught Sunday school at Hedrick-Martinsburg United Methodist Church. Connie was a 4-H leader, taught piano lessons and was a supporter of Pekin schools. She was a member of Rural Neighbors Club, Cedar Creek Club and was a great cook, dedicated mom and grandmother.
Surviving are her children, Jody (Stan) VanDerHorst of Farson, Steve (Chris) Wilkening of Farson, Julie (Scott) Heckart of Norwalk and Jennifer (Curtis) Lambirth of Attica; 11 grandchildren, Nick (Carrie) VanDerHorst, Leanna (Ryan) Denison, Eric Wilkening (Brandon Wensman), Kyle (Lisa) Wilkening, Kayla Heckart, Ryan (Kelly) Heckart, Alli and Nate Heckart, Shana, Holli and Cameron Lambirth; 15 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; and a brother, Gary Critchlow of Largo, FL.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Dean Critchlow and sisters, Geraldine Hubbartt and Carolee Clark.
Visitation will be open at 10 a.m. Monday, October 18th at Reece Funeral Home with the family present to greet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 19th at Reece Funeral Home. For those unable to attend the service it may be viewed live on the Reece Funeral Home Facebook page. Burial will be in Competine Cemetery.
