Comets bounce back above 500 with twin bill sweep of the Bears

The Cardinal Comets baseball team swept the BGM Bears with final scores of 7-1 and 8-6 to bump their record back over the 500 mark

The first game saw the two teams in a low-scoring affair through the first three innings. The only run over that span came in the second inning for the Bears when took advantage of two walks and a hit batter to give the Bears the 1-0 after three innings. The Comets would score and tie the game in the fourth inning with a Gavin Ware RBI double that scored Tatem Telfer. After a scoreless bottom of the inning, the Comets struck again in the top of the fifth inning. The Comets added two highlighted by an 11-pitch at-bat by Landon Becker that ended in a groundout RBI. After five the Comets lead 3-1. The Comets would have an offensive outburst in the sixth, as the first five batters of the inning would get on. Several Bear errors kept the inning going and a Landon Becker RBI pushed the Comet lead to 7-1. That would wind up being the final score in the first game. The first game player of the game was Tristin Cloke who picked up the win by throwing three innings of work, striking out two, and allowing no runs.

The second game saw a polar opposite start as both teams piled on the runs early. The Comets were the home team on the scoreboard for game #2. The Bears jumped all over Comet starter Blaine Bryant to open up game two. The first the Bear batters got on base and would come around and score in the top of the first. However, the Comets had the answer in the bottom of the first scoring two runs of RBIs from Tatem Telfer and Drake Durflinger. After one the Bears lead 3-2. Both teams would add one to the tally in the second inning, for the Comets it was an RBI single by Blaine Bryant. After two the Bears held a narrow 4-3 lead. After a scoreless third and a Bear scoreless bottom of the fourth, the Comets would get the game tieing run. Once again the run would be knocked in by starting pitcher Bryant, which would tie the game at 4. After a scoreless fifth and another empty frame for the Bears the Comets would rally back. This time the Comets cashed in four runs in the bottom of the sixth to lead 8-4. Becker, Durflinger and Telfer all had RBIs in the inning. The Bears would scratch back two runs but the Comets would go on to win 8-6. The second game player of the game was Blaine Bryant who got the win throwing 6 1/3 innings, striking out 9, walking two while allowing 6 runs as well as going 3/4 at the plate with 3 singles, 2 RBIs, and 2 runs scored.

With the doubleheader sweep the Comets now sit with a record of 5-4, while the losses drop the Bears to 2-7
