Catherine Marie Yochum, 101, of Ottumwa died at 8:35 p.m. February 7, 2020 at Hospice House.
She was born February 20, 1918 in Ottumwa to Maurice and Mary Larkin Moriarty. She married Carl Yochum June 20, 1945 and he preceded her in death October 23, 1993.
A graduate of Ottumwa High School and the Ottumwa Heights, Catherine taught over 8 years in country schools in the Ottumwa area. Beyond teaching, she helped her husband farm and raise their family.
She was an over 100-year member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Altar and Rosary Society, and Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She was also a 4-H leader.
Surviving are four daughters, Mary Lou (Mike) Croker of Cedar Rapids, Marjorie Burke of Naperville, IL, Kathleen Rosenbaum of Aurora, CO and Carol Yochum of Ottumwa; a daughter-in-law, Mary Yochum of Des Moines; 7 grandchildren, Colleen (Aaron) Kelly, Katie (Jamie) Schaefer, Jennifer (Mike) Kellogg, Brian (Tara) Burke, Matthew Yochum, Adam (Leslie) Rosenbaum and Brett (Heather) Rosenbaum; 10 great grandchildren, Asher and Finley Kellogg, Teagan and Chloe Marie Burke, Ryan, Sean and Logan Kelly, Ryder, Lillian and Avery Rosenbaum; along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Stephen Yochum; a son-in-law, Thomas Burke; two brothers, Donald and John Moriarty.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Fr. Patrick Hilgendorf presiding. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home. At 4:30 p.m. Friday a Rosary will be recited followed by a Christian Wake Service. A time for family to greet friends will follow until 7 p.m. Friday.
