Cardinal Community School District says starting Tuesday, September 8th, all students and staff will be required to wear face coverings.
In a letter to families, Cardinal Superintendent Joel Pedersen said in a September 3rd meeting the Cardinal school board voted unanimously to make the wearing of masks mandatory for all personnel in every building. The vote was based off recommendation of Wapello County Public Health and Wapello County Emergency Management. Pedersen says requiring the wearing of masks is based on the premise of keeping the school open.
As of September 4th, no student or staff member has tested positive for COVID-19. The new measure is a way to lower the number of individuals who contract the virus or have to quarantine, according to Pedersen.
Cardinal has also added a dashboard on its district website that will provide updates for positive cases of the coronavirus for students and staff, number of people in quarantine, and the overall percentage of personnel who have contracted the virus. That information can be found on the homepage of https://www.cardinalcomet.com/. The dashboard will be updated daily by 4:00 PM, according to Peterson.
