In a letter to parents, the Cardinal Community School Board announced face coverings will be encouraged but not mandatory starting next week.
Beginning Monday, May 10th, Cardinal students and employees have the option to wear a face mask but it will not be required. The Cardinal School Board voted Wednesday night to make the change.
The school board says quarantine rules will still be followed if a positive case of Covid is discovered at the school.
Exceptions to the shift in policy will be indoor events that have large attendance such as graduations and school concerts. The school board will reconvene if positive cases appear at the school or if positive cases rise significantly in Wapello County.
Cardinal’s school year ends on May 26th.
