WAUKEE, IA – Ottumwa golfers were pleased to see sunny and dry conditions Monday morning in Waukee after having to endure a rain-soaked week last week out on the links. The Bulldogs were joined by six other schools for the Waukee Invitational at The Legacy including Indianola, Johnston, Norwalk, Southeast Polk, Valley, and the host, Waukee.
At the conclusion of the 18-hole tournament, Ottumwa sat sixth in the standings with a team round of 339, 32 strokes off the lead set by the Johnston team with at 307. Junior Joe Hammer once again led the charge for the Bulldogs firing a one-over 73, placing him second in the individual standings, one behind medalist Jarred Bowswer, Johnston. Senior Cale Leonard also finished in the top three of the individuals standings with a three-over 75, tying with two Waukee golfers for third.
Other individual results for the Bulldogs include: Trent Grooms (94, 24th), Trae Swartz (97, 26th), Jackson Saunders (105, 28th), and Tyse Barker (112, 30th).
The Waukee Invitational began a busy week for the Ottumwa golf team, as the Bulldogs will be on the course again Thursday and Friday at Clinton and Marshalltown, respectively.
