Betty Raskie


Betty Ann (Posovich) Raskie, age 82 of Centerville, passed away Thursday, December 09, 2021 at her home in the care of her family.

Betty was born at home in Rathbun, Iowa to Steve and Winnie (Hamilton) Posovich on March 8, 1939.  After graduating from Centerville High School with the Class of 1957, she would go to work for Western Mutual in Des Moines, Iowa.  On October 9, 1965, she would marry her sweetheart, Gabe Raskie, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church of Rathbun.  Her and Gabe would make their home in Centerville, where they would raise their four children, Rita (Dave) Susin, Susan (Art) Kirchoff, Jason (Sunny) Raskie, and Melissa Raskie (Brady Walz).

Betty loved being a homemaker and mom.  She would work for the Centerville School District as “Lunch Lady” once her children were in school.  She would enjoy the students from Central School for close to 30 years.  Betty loved to visit casinos, spend time with her family and cheering for the Kansas City Chiefs.  During her life, she would battle cancer three separate times and was courageous until the very end.  Betty was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Centerville.

Left to miss her are her husband of 56 years; her children; and her grandchildren, who she was always proud of, Tara Susin (John Cochran), Brendan (Sara) Cortesio, Dakota Susin (Hope Hancox), Tanner (Ashley) Susin, Colton Dommer and Brayden Raskie.  Grandma Betty will also be missed by several great-grandchildren, Liam, Mia, Korbin, Adrienne, Haylee, Rowan, and Luca.  She is also survived by her sister, Connie Conkel; a sister-in-law, Sally Posovich; along with several special nieces and nephews and life-long friends. 

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; and older brother, Steve Posovich Jr.

Betty’s family would like to thank everyone who helped her toward her journey home, especially the EveryStep Hospice family.

According to her wishes, Betty will be cremated.  A Celebration of Betty’s life will be held Wednesday, December 15, 2021 with the family greeting friends from 5-7PM at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville, Iowa with Fr. Timothy Armbruster conducting a prayer service at 5:00PM.  Memorials may be written to either Hope Chest or to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, ATTN: Raskie family, 1900 South 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544.  Condolences may be shared online at or on our funeral home Facebook page.
